Building Capacity for Global Maritime Trade
Global trade continues to expand through maritime routes, driving demand for larger, more efficient, and environmentally responsible vessels. At the same time, the industry is entering a new phase shaped by fleet renewal, decarbonisation targets, and evolving energy transportation requirements.
India is emerging as a key participant in this shift, supported by strong policy momentum, strategic trade positioning, and growing industrial capability. Despite handling a significant share of global maritime trade, the country currently contributes a limited share to global shipbuilding output—creating a substantial opportunity for capacity expansion.
Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Limited (SDHI) is positioned to support this transition through one of India’s largest integrated shipbuilding facilities. With infrastructure capable of constructing large commercial carriers and next-generation green vessels, SDHI delivers scalable shipbuilding solutions aligned with global quality, efficiency, and delivery expectations.
The company is also expanding its global collaboration network through strategic partnerships focused on advanced vessel design, green technologies, and digital shipbuilding methodologies, strengthening its ability to serve evolving international shipping requirements.
Backed by modular construction capabilities, integrated fabrication facilities, and one of the largest dry docks in the region, SDHI is equipped to support evolving commercial shipping requirements across global markets.

Recent Wins
SDHI Secures India’s First Ammonia Dual-Fuel Bulk Carrier Order
SDHI has secured India’s first-ever order for ammonia dual-fuel bulk carriers, marking a major milestone in the country’s transition towards next-generation green shipbuilding. The contract, awarded by Energy ONE Limited, covers the construction of four 92,500 DWT bulk carriers at SDHI’s Pipavav shipyard in Gujarat.
Among the largest commercial vessels ever contracted at an Indian shipyard, the carriers will feature advanced ammonia-fuelled propulsion systems designed by South Korea’s KMS-EMEC and classed by DNV, ensuring compliance with international safety and environmental standards.
The project reinforces SDHI’s growing capability in delivering technologically advanced, lower-emission commercial vessels while strengthening India’s position in the global green shipbuilding ecosystem.
SDHI Secures Landmark Chemical Tanker Order
SDHI has secured its first newbuild contract for six 18,000 DWT IMO Type II chemical tankers, valued at USD 227 million, marking one of India’s largest commercial shipbuilding deals and the country’s first chemical tanker order placed with an Indian shipyard.
The contract, awarded by European shipowner Rederiet Stenersen AS, includes an option for six additional vessels. The tankers will feature advanced LNG-ready hybrid propulsion systems and are scheduled for delivery starting within 33 months.
This milestone highlights SDHI’s capabilities in delivering complex, world-class vessels and reinforces India’s growing position in the global shipbuilding industry.
